In a word, no. However, this is not what Bucky Brooks of nfl.com thinks. In his latest mock draft Brooks has Suh dropping all the way to the Raiders at No. 8. Brooks' predictions shocked me so much I decided to look at all of the teams he had passing on Suh.
This article will look at all seven teams ahead of the Raiders and analyze whether or not he will get past them.
St. Louis Rams
Reasons to take Suh: He is the best player in the draft and despite having drafted D-linemen two out of the last three years the Rams still need help on the line.
Reasons to pass: Having two former No. 1 picks on your line means there is already a lot of money invested there. They also need a QB so they will have to take a hard look at Sam Bradford here.
Bucky Brooks pick: Sam Bradford
Detroit Lions
Reason to take Suh: Despite adding Corey Williams and Kyle Vanden Bosch the Lions still need defensive line help. Jim Schwartz' system needs a D-line pressure to be effective.
Reasons to pass: The Lions need to protect their franchise QB and Russell Okung is considered to be far and away the best OT in the draft. This would enable the Lions to move Jeff Backus inside to guard.
Bucky Brooks pick: Russell Okung
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Reasons to take Suh: The Buccaneers allowed the most yards on the ground of any team in the NFL at 158.2 yards per game. They need a DT who can help against the run game and get to the QB.
Reason to pass: Some NFL scouts think that McCoy will actually be the better NFL player. This pick would all come down to the opinion of the Bucs scouts.
Bucky Brooks pick: Gerald McCoy
Washington Redskins
Reasons to take Suh: The Redskins could use an upgrade next to Haynesworth but it is not a pressing need.
Reasons to pass: Offensive tackle is by far the most pressing need for Washington and there are still very good tackles left on the board. They also recently spent $100 million dollars on Albert Haynesworth.
Bucky Brooks pick: Trent Williams
Kansas City Chiefs
Reasons to take Suh: He is the best player available and Pioli is good at recognizing and acquiring talent. If Pioli really likes Suh, he could trade Glenn Dorsey, who was not one of his draft picks, and draft Suh to replace him.
Reason to pass: Suh would play defensive end in a 3-4 and the Chiefs last two first round picks, Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson, fill those positions.
Bucky Brooks pick: Bryan Bulaga
Seattle Seahawks
Reasons to take Suh: This pick would be a great signature pick to start the Pete Carroll era. He could reach for an OT here but instead he could start putting his mark on this defense.
Reasons to pass: The Seahawks' biggest need is on the offensive line. Pete Carroll's USC teams also had dynamic running backs so they may look at CJ Spiller.
Bucky Brooks pick: Anthony Davis
Cleveland Browns
Reasons to take Suh: Kenyon Coleman and Robaire Smith only combined for three sacks and they just traded Corey Williams.
Reasons to pass: The only reason I can think to pass on Suh here would be if they just had that much higher of a grade on Eric Berry than Suh. This is doubtful considering that Mike Holmgren never took a first round safety while he was in Seattle.
Bucky Brooks pick: Eric Berry
Conclusion
In all likelihood Suh will be gone in the top three picks and if for some reason he gets past three, there is no way he gets past five. Scott Pioli is too good of a GM to let Suh pass by. He will either pick Suh and trade Glenn Dorsey or find a trade partner and move down.
If Ndamukong Suh does get to Oakland at No. 8, Al Davis will still likely find a way to screw it up. Maybe he would take one of the workout warriors, Jason Pierre Paul or Bruce Davis.
