The Cubs today announced the signing of their first round pick, Andrew Cashner. Cashner is set to join the Mesa Cubs sometime in the near future.
Cashner, who pitched for TCU this past season, was the 19th overall pick in the 2008 First Year Player Draft, where he compiled 54 and one third innings, so the Cubs plan to take it slow with Cashner.
He also would like to stay as a closer rather than be converted to a starter, but he says he will do whatever the club asks him to.
When asked if he was planning to dethrone Kerry Wood as the Cubs' closer his response was, "No, sir, he's pretty good."
