Antonio Margarito is a cheater. There is no defending that point, being a professional athlete is a privilege not a right. I agree with everyone that what he did was an inexcusable and despicable act; I am not trying to defend him in anyway, but enough is enough it is time to stop hating on him and let this go.
Margarito is not the first athlete to cheat and certainly will not be the last. I know what he did was wrong, there is no justification to load your gloves to hurt another person. He deserved the punishment he got and that should be that. Isn't it ironic that the one to exposed Margarito is a cheater himself, Sugar Shane Mosley. All cheaters are the same, they want to win and are willing to do anything to get the job done. We should not get all hyped up when we find out that an athlete has broken the rule to succeed.
Everyone sport has cheaters, it has become common place in our society today. The old saying is, "if you are not cheating, you are not trying" rings eternally loud nowadays. Margarito is no different that anyone else. He wanted to win and to reach fame and fortune. There is no one alive that would not take an advantage if they could to get the W, whether that be money, fame, promotion, or a free lunch. I am in no way trying to say that cheating is okay, I am a firm believer that playing by the rules make the game more fun. But there is still a part of me that wouldn't hesitate take a chance to get that edge. If you say to yourself that you always play by the rules and that it has never crossed your mind to cheat. In my opinion I think you are lying to yourself.
Margarito is a cheater. I don't know if he cheated his whole career or not, but it is time to stop thinking he is the exception to the rule. Cheaters are everywhere, you can't keep judging one and ignoring the others (i.e. Bonds, Mosley, McGuire, Landis). Lets just get over it and move on. Sports is about Winning, if it wasn't why do they keep score? Cheating will never go away, we just gotta stay vigilant.
