Statement Made: Tigers are Ready for Boston College

IconIn a week that may have seemed unimportant to the average viewer, many teams took big steps forward. Here are the teams that made the biggest statements on Saturday:

Clemson:

Most people thought the Tigers would win this game, but nobody saw this coming. A usually solid Wake Forest team was dismantled on both sides of the ball in a 44-10 loss to Clemson, a team as hot as anybody in the country. Tommy Bowden's Tigers have now set up a winner-take-all showdown with struggling Boston College this week for the ACC Atlantic Division crown.

Tennessee and Georgia:

These two made it clear this weekend that the SEC East is a two-horse race...Sorry Florida. Tennessee held Arkansas' powerhouse running game in check in a 21-point win, while Georgia pulled away from Auburn, putting up 45 on the Tigers' vaunted defense in the process. Both teams have two conference losses, but Tennessee owns the tie-breaker between the two by virtue of their win over the Bulldogs earlier this season.

Kansas:

The undefeated Jayhawks have made a statement every week, but this was probably their strongest yet. Many thought Kansas would finally lose when they headed to Stillwater to face their first opponent with a winning record. Not happenin'. Todd Reesing continued his masterful play this season, compiling over 300 passing yards and three touchdowns. Assuming the Jayhawks beat lowly Iowa State, a makeshift North Division championship game against Missouri is the only thing standing between them and a trip to the Big 12 Championship.

Oklahoma:

Kansas wasn't the only team making noise in the Big 12 this week.  The Sooners 31-point win over Baylor sets up a potentially division-clinching game against Texas Tech on Saturday. Quarterback Sam Bradford, although seemingly out of the race, is still putting up Heisman-type numbers in his freshman season. Oh, by the way, with Ohio State's loss, Bob Stoops' boys have quietly snuck back into the national title hunt.

Cincinatti:

An under-the-radar game in the Big East saw the Bearcats throttle Big East front-runner Connecticut 27-3. Cincinatti's defense was impressive again, and quarterback Ben Mauk led the Cats to a dominating win over a team who hadn't suffered a conference loss all season. If the Bearcats can beat West Virginia, another Connecticut loss would likely lead to a BCS berth for Cincinatti.
