James Irvin has said that he considers Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin as being his bosses. On July 19th, he could please them both by defeating Anderson Silva.
The big question is can Irvin deliver the devastating punch required to punish Anderson for venturing into the forbidden territory of the Light Heavyweight division?
Actually, it was the "big boss" Dana White who made the decision to lead Anderson Silva into this dangerous 205 pound territory and put him in harm's way to face James Irvin.
Silva was quick to acknowledge that he is only fighting as a "favor to the boss," and that this was not his choice.
Fighting at 205 pounds is not exactly new to Anderson. He fought at this weight in Pride fights, which had no 185 pound division. While he had four losses in Pride fights, Silva has a 6-0 record in the UFC and has become considered to be virtually unbeatable in that division.
Surely as an admittedly hard hitter, Irvin has a chance to pull off an upset if he can catch the "Spider" by getting off a fast shot. Because Anderson has most recently used the first round to more or less "feel out" his opponents, Irvin should be able to capitalize on this and come out swinging for a knock out.
Of course since Anderson works out with "best bud" Loyoto Machida, whom he considers the future UFC Light Heavyweight champion, there is a chance that he has picked up enough of Machida's evasiveness to elude the big Irvin strike altogether, thus foiling this game plan.
If this doesn't work, then the advice I have always used myself and given my granddaughter Sierra is all wrong, and you should not take a spider out as quickly as possible by smashing it immediately upon seeing it with your hand.

I just hope this fight doesn't turn into Silva dancing around the whole time trying to avoid getting caught with a big hit. Irvin loves to go for the knockout and he's willing to use some of the flashier moves (flying knees and superman punches) to pull to pull it off.
Silva knows that and he's going to do his best to not put himself in harms way. We'll find out soon enough though.

Anderson does train with Lyoto Machida, the elussive one, and may have picked up on his evassive techniques.
