The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays today 2-1 in 10 innings.

The Bronx Bombers got a decent start out of Sidney Ponson. He went six innings, allowed one run on five hits, walked two and struck out four.

Rays' hurler Edwin Jackson also had a satisfactory game. Jackson went 6.1 innings, allowed one run on six hits, walked two and struck out three.

The Yanks struck for one run in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single from Jason Giambi to score Derek Jeter.

With the Yankees leading 1-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Carlos Pena clubbed a homer to tie the game 1-1.

The Bombers threatened to end the game in the bottom of the ninth. With pinch-runner Justin Christian on third base with two outs, Jose Molina popped out to second baseman Akinori Iwamura to send the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the 10th with Jeter on first base, Bobby Abreu crushed a double to score Jeter all the way from first to give the Yankees a walk-off win and a sweep of the two game series against Tampa Bay.

Mariano Rivera pitched two scoreless innings and picked up the win. He improved his record to 4-3.

Grant Balfour, who surrendered the game-winning double to Abreu, took the loss for the Rays and fell to 2-1 on the year.

The Yankees will travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates in a make-up game set for tomorrow night at 7:05.

Making up the June 26th rain out, the Yankees will go with Mike Mussina (11-6, 3.64 ERA). Pittsburgh will give the ball to Paul Maholm (5-5, 4.05 ERA).
