NBA, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Ronny Turiaf, Breaking News

The Golden State Warriors and Chris Mullin are again in the news.  Ronny Turiaf has now been offered a four year contract from the Warriors—the Lakers have seven days do match the offer.

Unless Chris Mullin is signing Turiaf to a multi-year deal as a bench player, he is not giving Biedrins confidence in staying a Warrior.  With both Ellis and Biedrins not being signed yet, every move Chris Mullin does will be closely watched by these two players.

Turiaf, who was a star at Gonzaga University, will thrive in this fast break system, but is he going to make the difference to make the Warriors a contender?

Not likely.

Mullin needs to focus this summer and shock the world with a trade—maybe Harrington and Biedrins for a Rasheed Wallace or Tayshaun Prince.

The Warriors need to make a splash like Boston did last year to be successful this year.

  1. Yeah, nice move by the Warriors actually, since they need some strength in the power forward position. He's not a star but his attitude will bring joy to Nellie. He has great work ethic and will probably be a starter with Hendrix as a back-up. He complements Biedrins pretty well. Plus, Biedrins and Turiaf play at different positions, so I don't really understand how you came to the conclusion that Mully is making Biedrins a lil nervous. If they bring in a legit center, then Dre can start to get a little nervous.

Rasheed Wallace is past his years and Tayshaun Prince won't leave Detroit. Dre is not going to be traded. Lastly, Golden State is no Boston.

    Thanks for reporting the news.

    1. Turiaf did play some back-up center in L.A. Neither he nor Pau were true centers though-- they just played the position with Kwame shipped out and Mihm injured.

I'm not sure that even Nellie could play both Biedrins and Turiaf together much-- neither are guys who create shots for themselves or score much. Most of Biedrins points came off put-backs or pick and rolls with Ellis/Davis. It's probably more likely that Turiaf would play a combo of both positions (some PF, some C time), but as a back-up to whoever starts, IMHO. Biedrins has nothing to worry about. The guys who should be anxious should be Wright, and maybe even Harrington, who lose already low playing time.

Then again, this could be the very setup for Harrington's trade. Or just putting pressure on the Lake Show to weaken them, albeit in any small way. :)

  2. Lakers like Turiaf, but they won't match up 17 mil. They will have Bynum first and then Mihn to fill Turiafs minutes. If that amount is correct, Turiaf will be a Warrior.

  3. I like it. We need someone with toughness who'll battle in the paint with the other big power forwards who used to abuse us. I didn't like Turiaf before because he would make us look like wimps, but if he remains a Warrior, I feel better about some of the matchups we've had like Boozer et al. He's younger than I thought, which is only good given the youth on the Warriors. How about a budding point guard talent now?
