Ottawa struck it big in the  NHL free agent market on Tuesday adding  just  what the team  and the dressing room needed.  The Sens made a big splash on their blueline  yesterday signing  Philadelphia's  Captain from last year  for  5.2 million over 2 years.

Although its not the Puck moving defencman  Ottawa  was needing, they still  took care of a lot of what  this team need with signing Smith.  A solid shot blocker and never one to shy down from anybody ,and playing a  very in your face style of hockey ..He  is also know as a great leader on and off the  ice.. i am sure we will be  seeing  and "A" on his jersey in  the up coming  season . Smith also  has Stanley cup finals experience  with Edmonton , as well took the Flyers to the  Eastern Conference final  last year ..

One  thing that seems certain   is that Jason  wants to be in Ottawa and is very excited to be playing in Canada again .. also saying  it was a good decision for his family to make the move..

It  looks like Bryan Murray already has plans  for  Smith  playing with Andrej Meszaros..  It looks like it would be a good fit  for smith to play with Meszaros  taking him under his wing  so to say ..  also letting Meszaros be a little more offencive this year ..

Another Character move for Ottawa  looking at making a difference  from the end of last year .. and still looks like they are not done yet  as rumours are out there that  they are looking at  acquiring Mathieu Schneider from the Ducks. he is set at making 5.75 million dollars next season ..  and with  ottawa  still needing to siing  Antoine Vermette and Meszaros.. it will be tough to get  then under the  56 million  salary cap for next year .
