1. Florida Gators 5-0
2. Kansas Jayhawks 5-0
3. USC Trojans 4-0
4. Missouri Tigers 5-0
5. West Virginia Mountaineers 5-0
6. Oklahoma Sooners 5-0
7. Texas Longhorns 5-0
8. Georgia Bulldogs 4-1
9. Utah Utes 6-0
10. Clemson Tigers 5-0
Now it's time to move on to Week 7 of the 2008 College Football season.
Key Games in Week 7:
Texas (5-0) vs. Oklahoma (5-0) (in Dallas, Texas)
Last season, BOTH the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners headed into the Red River Showdown coming off a loss the previous week.
This season, these two teams head into the Red River Showdown as UNDEFEATED teams, each ranked in the Top Seven.
In addition, the Texas Longhorns will have revenge on their mind after losing 28-21 to the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl last season.
In the end, I expect this showdown to be decided on the final possession...just like it was last season. However, I also see the Texas Longhorns getting revenge.
Winner: Texas
Arizona State (4-1) @ USC (4-0)
This Pac-10 showdown features two teams, each ranked in the Top 12, as the No. 12 Arizona State Sun Devils travel to Los Angeles to face the No. 3 USC Trojans.
The USC Trojans head into this game with a lot of momentum and an UNDEFEATED record. In addition, the Trojans already have several big wins under their belt this season. The most notable one, of course, is the victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 3 of the season.
On the other hand, the Arizona State Sun Devils head into this game coming off a huge win over the California Golden Bears at Berkeley AFTER failing their first major test of the season by losing to the Georgia Bulldogs AT HOME.
In addition, Rudy Carpenter and the Sun Devils will be looking for payback after losing 44-24 to the USC Trojans AT HOME last season.
I expect senior QB Rudy Carpenter to play with a greater sense of urgency, against USC this season...because he knows that this will be his final chance to beat the Trojans.
Although the USC Trojans have an incredible home field advantage, I think that Rudy Carpenter will do just enough and lead the Arizona State Sun Devils to a huge road victory over the USC Trojans.
In addition, during the 2006 and 2007 College Football seasons, the USC Trojans have stumbled along the way. I just have a feeling that this will be the game in which USC stumbles this season.
Winner: Arizona State
Louisiana Tech (2-2) @ Hawaii (0-5)
Remember the meeting between these two teams last season?
"On September 8th of last season, Hawaii needed overtime to defeat Derek Dooley’s Bulldogs in week two. In the first overtime, Dooley decided to go for two, figuring it would be next to impossible to keep Colt Brennan from scoring again. This was a decision reminiscent of Boise State’s in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Unfortunately, the pass for conversion was deflected and the Warriors escaped with a 45-44 win."
It became FAMOUS... after SO MANY people DEFENDED Hawaii's OVERTIME victory over Louisiana Tech on MY "BCS Championship: Why Kansas Should Be In, LSU Should Be Out" article:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/5617-bcs-championship-why-kansas-should-be-in-lsu-should-be-out
But seriously—the Rainbow Warriors, with Heisman finalist Colt Brennan, NEEDED OVERTIME to win over Louisiana Tech in Week 2 last season.
Now that Hawaii is without Brennan, I am wondering if Hawaii can even get to overtime in this season's meeting against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. In addition, Hawaii lost their top three wide receivers and best offensive lineman.
Moreover, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are VERY WELL RESTED, as the Bulldogs play only their fourth game in a time period of just over 36 days.
In fact, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs had THREE consecutive periods of AT LEAST 10 days rest (13 days rest between the @ Kansas and Southeastern Louisiana games, 10 days rest between the Southeastern Louisiana and @ Boise State games, and 10 days rest between the @ Boise State and @ Hawaii games).
Either way, I see Louisiana Tech using this incredible amount of rest to their advantage, making it factor into the outcome of this game, as Louisiana Tech will beat Hawaii.
The post-Colt Brennan era has gotten off to a very bad start as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors fall to 0-6 on the 2008 season. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will improve to 3-2, as things have gotten very ugly in a hurry for Hawaii!
Winner: Louisiana Tech
