Florida-South Carolina: Gators Run It Up On the Ol' Ball Coach

After a banner day for Tim Tebow and a long afternoon for Steve Spurrier, Jeremiah Jackson has the skinny on Florida's 51-31 win over South Carlonia.

IconThe Florida Gators took care of Steve Spurrier again this year—this time without any field-goal blocks by Jarvis Moss.

The Gators kept their SEC title hopes alive with the win.

The 51-31 final score only partially reflected Florida's dominance. A pair of late South Carolina touchdowns made it closer than it should have been.

Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks had no answer for Tim Tebow.

SuperTebow ran back into the Heisman race on Saturday, passing for a career-high 304 yards and two TDs. He also had a record-setting day on the ground, with 26 carries for 120 yards and five TDs.

On the day, Tebow touched the ball 58 times for 424 yards and scored seven TDs—all without stellar wide receiver Percy Harvin.

In 10 games, Tebow has 23 passing touchdowns and 19 rushing touchdowns. He's making Florida fans forget about the inconsistent play of Chris Leak.

My one beef with Tebow's performance was that he was still on the field when the game had been long since decided. This left him exposed to injury—which would wreck the Gators' chances of making it to Atlanta.

Steve Spurrier hasn't given up 50 points to any team since he coached Florida in that dreadful Fiesta Bowl against Nebraska in 1995.

    1. Wow. I think someone is still intoxicated after last night's party scene in Gainesville.

  2. nice article man and I live in Gainesville,FL, so yeah I am a big time gator fan.

  3. I never knew Tim Tebow was out of the Heisman race. He is a great college quarteback and I am glad to see someone kick Spurrier's butt for a change.

    GO GATORS

    1. I like when the Gators win, but I don't like running up the score against Spurrier. I'm a huge Gators fan and it breaks my heart every year we have to play against him. It is probably just as hard for him to coach against the Gators, regardless of what he says about that being history.

  4. the heisman is as much about mythology as it is about stats and wins and tebow seems like he lives on mt. olympus rather than g-ville. seriously, no one else is even close...

    1. I do not agree. What the quarterback from Oregan??? He seems to have a shot at the heisman, doesn't he??
