With the news that the Philadelphia Eagles have signed DB Marlin Jackson to a two-year deal worth about $6millies, it leads me to ask a question:  Are they starting a new singing group there at the Nova Care Complex?  Mr. Jackson's signing brings the total number of players named Jackson to three.  Imagine that--the "Jackson Three".

If they sign two more players named Jackson, they would have the "Jackson Fi..."....never mind, that's already been done.  Marlin Jackson now joins prolific receiver/return man DeSean Jackson, and C Jamaal Jackson on the Eagles roster.  This may not be breaking news, but how many teams can sport as many of the same surnames on their rosters?

Marlin Jackson, signed recently as a Free Agent (formerly of the Indianapolis Colts), is slated to play Safety for the Eagles, but could also see action as a cornerback in some defensive sets.  He is 6'-0", 197 pounds, and can fill the need that the Birds have at Safety if his surgically repaired knees are up to the challenge.  He at least will compete with incumbents Victor "Macho" Harris and Quintin Demps for the starting spot in Philly's defense.

The Eagles will also, no doubt, continue to scour the Free Agent pool of talent as well as seek to draft a player in this years' 2010 NFL draft to bolster a needful position.  Head Coach Andy Reid and Defensive Coordinator Sean McDermitt both love to have competition in training camp, and this looks like a good battle will be heating up there in Lehigh come mini camps and full training camp time this summer.  Stay tuned.

There are some needs on the defensive side of the ball for Philadelphia, including Defensive End, Linebacker (if their wounded players don't fully recover), and their always looking for Defensive Back help.  Also, the Birds could use some depth on offense at Running Back, and Receiver.  The Quarterback position notwithstanding, we will just have to wait to see what, if anything, happens there.  Andy Reid has said in times past that no roster spot is "locked up" and that the Eagles are always looking to "upgrade" at all positions.  So, the wheels are still turning until the 53 man roster is announced, and even then if a certain "upgrade level" player is available, a move could be made.

If so, perhaps that players' name will be "Jackson", and the "group" will expand its' numbers.  It stands officially at three for now, but with the way the Eagles do business with their roster and players, it could change quickly.  Maybe, they get together at some point and begin harmony rehearsals, hire a posse of dancers, get a talent agent and support staff, a good DJ perhaps....oh, the possibilities.  Can we expect to see them perform the National Anthem at some point during the season?  Playoffs?  Super Bowl halftime show?  American Idol?

Oh, the possibilities.
