Coming off a walk-off win against the arch-rival Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees shutout the first place Tampa Bay Rays tonight 5-0.
Yankees' ace Andy Pettitte was absolutely brilliant. He lasted eight strong innings, allowed no runs on four hits, issued no walks, and struck out five.
Scott Kazmir of the Rays went five innings, allowed two runs on five hits, walked one and struck out nine.
In the bottom of the third, the Yankees struck for two runs. Derek Jeter hit a two-run double to score Robinson Cano and Jose Molina, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

With Pettitte on cruise control, the Bombers would hold the 2-0 lead up until the bottom of the eighth. Melky Cabrera belted a solo home run, giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.
The Yankees would tack on two more runs in the eighth with an RBI double from Bobby Abreu to score Jeter and an RBI single from Cano.
Harboring a 5-0 lead in the top of the ninth, Edwar Ramirez retired the side in order to secure a Yankee win.
Pettitte captured the win and is now 10-6 on the campaign.
Kazmir took the loss and is now 7-4 overall.
Tomorrow afternoon at 1:05, the Yankees will send Sidney Ponson (5-1, 4.19 ERA) to the mound in the finale of this brief two-game series. Ponson will be opposed by Edwin Jackson (5-6. 4.08 ERA).
