New York Rangers Hire Mike Barnett

Greg CaggianoSenior Writer IJuly 8, 2008

Today, the Rangers' General Manager and President Glen Sather announced that the franchise had hired former Phoenix Coyotes GM Mike Barnett.

The job is to be the Senior Advisor to the President and General Manager and Director of U.S. Amateur Scouting.

In this job, he will work alongside Sather, Jim Schoenfeld, and Cameron Hope. He will oversee all player transactions within the franchise and also be in charge of amateur scouting in the United States.

TSN had this to say about Mike Barnett:

Prior to his stay in Phoenix, Barnett served as President of International Management Group's hockey division for 12 years. As a player agent, Barnett earned a reputation as one of the most creative and well-informed agents in the industry. His client list included several high-profile players such as Wayne Gretzky, Bret Hull, Paul Coffey, Jaromir Jagr, Joe Thornton, Mats Sundin, and Sergei Fedorov.

He's been known for his ability to find young talent and definately has the experience. Let's hope he is a nice compliment to Glen Sather in the Rangers' front office.
