Steven Gerrard: Con Artist [Part 1]
Steven Gerrard is a man of many talents: Liverpool captain, England vice-captain, husband and father. In this three part special, I examine Steven Gerrard’s other talent…
Steven Gerrard is a great football player. No matter how you argue your case, there is no denying that he is a great player. He’s either one of the best English midfielders in the world or he is one of the best midfielders in the world, period. Steven Gerrard is a Champions League winner, UEFA Cup winner, FA Cup winner and a League Cup winner. Premier League winner? Maybe not. But I am not here to debate that. Instead, I am here to discuss Steven Gerrard’s other talent; Steven Gerrard – Con Artist.
Here is a man who said who claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo is damaging football and says this "I don't think there’s anything worse than a player diving when no-ones been anywhere near him. It does ruin the game" and goes on to do this: YouTube - Steven Gerrard, the hypocrite. Now, before you go on and slate me for selective vision and say that every player does the same, allow me to mention this. Yes, every player dives occasionally but no one accuses a fellow professional as being anti-football while being guilty of the exact same thing. Just to clear things up, I am a Manchester United fan and I will be the first to admit that Rooney has slammed diving only to dive in matches (most notably against Arsenal, twice) but he does not go on and shame players openly when he is just as guilty. On his 500th appearance for Liverpool in a goalless draw against Blackburn, Steven Gerrard gets caught by the invisible 12th player for Blackburn. Video proof here.
Never mind that Steven Gerrard is a hypocrite, Steven Gerrard has managed get out of jail (pun intended) by escaping headlines and the media fury time and time again. Amidst that 10/10 dive, no mention of it is made on major sports networks or newspapers. When Ronaldo or Drogba does it, they get crucified. Fact! When Gerrard does it, Andy Gray praises Gerrard for anticipating contact or getting a ‘clever’ decision in favour of his team. Fact!
Steven Gerrard, MBE is a diver. Fact!
