Wrestling would not be fun unless a few guys got together with the intent of taking over the promotion or just having fun. Lets take a look at some of the greatest stables of all time.

A great stable in my eyes is one who is first over with fans. Secondly, it is about a group who takes care of each other and has each others back.

A perfect stable is one which has the World champion, a secondary champ, who could easily be the World Champion or being groomed, and a tag team.

A mouthpiece is always nice to have such as an evil manager. The last part of the criteria may not apply to all the stables discussed, but the general idea is there.

Agree or disagree, that is what looking at one man's opinion is all about.

10. Raven's Nest

Raven's Nest was created with the sole purpose of making Raven's ECW opponents', Tommy Dreamer and the Sandman, lives miserable. The group made sure the belt stayed with Raven. The group also held the tag titles for a time.

Raven had many henchmen and sidekicks. Some of the names are Cactus Jack, The Dudleyz, and main whipping boy, Stevie Richards.

Who could ever forget, or forgive, Raven for turning the Sandman's own son against the Sandman. The later incarnation, the Flock in WCW, did not have the same appeal and vileness as the original ECW Raven's Nest.

9. Von Erichs

This may be the first of the controversial decisions to add the Von Erichs to a list of stables. Were they really a stable?

Answers could go either way, but what is a stable but a family who is out to watch each others back and what better family to represent than the First Family of Texas.

8. The Freebirds

Stable or three man tag team? These three, when they were together, terrorized every fan favorite from the Von Erichs to The Road Warriors. Jimmy Garvin was said to be the fourth Freebird.

7. Army of Darkness

These guys were pure evil, and why not, the leader was a self-professed satanist. The Army was not interested in titles, but just to make the fan favorites in Florida hate life.

This stable terrorized fans and wrestlers alike. Dusty Rhodes, Barry Windham, Superstar Graham, and Mike Graham all felt the wrath of these evil entities.

Sullivan's other mission was to convert and recruit the fan favorites into his army.

And damn, Does Woman look good or what?

6. D-X 2.0

Some fans claim the D-X version with HHH, Chyna, and HBK may have been better, but as a stable, I would put this version as the better of the three incarnations of D-X.

Had the New Age Outlaws joined D-X with HHH, HBK, and Chyna, then the faction would have been even higher on the list even challenging for the top spot.

The reason this group takes the No. 6 spot is because HHH was not challenging for the World title, he was happy at the time with the I-C strap. Waltman was looking for the third-tier title.

5. Heenan Family AWA

Heenan_display_image

The WWF version of the Heenan Family may be more well known, but the AWA version of the Family had more success. In the WWF, Heenan always chased and tried to put out Hulk Hogan, an extension of their AWA feud.

With all the superstars he managed, Heenan could never find the right guy to eliminate the Hulkster and had to settle for the I-C title and a few tag titles.

In the AWA, Heenan was the mouth and the Brain behind multiple AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkel, tag team champs the Blackjacks, and International champion, Ken Patera.

4. Evolution

Had they stayed together a few more years and not been so injury-prone, Evolution could have had the top spot. They were the definition of Past, Present, and Future.

They were just about the perfect group. HHH the World champ with the group sworn to keep the strap on him. The future world champ and secondary star in Randy Orton and Flair as mouthpiece and groomer for Batista and Orton.

At one point, this foursome held the World title, I-C title, and Tag titles at the same time.

3. The Corporation

Fans forget this stable too often, and how powerful they were. With the owner of the company behind a faction, it should be expected.

The group was created so Vince McMahon could get rid of the trash who were destroying his federation. The groups major feuds included Stone Cold, D-X, and Mick Foley.

The group held all the major titles with the superstars. The Rock was the Crown Jewel, Ken Shamrock was the I-C champ, and Shamrock and Bossman held the tag titles.

The group slowly disbanded once HHH joined the group. The Game wanted the world title, but the Rock felt the belt belonged to him. The Rock was kicked out when Shane unleashed the dogs on him for not beating Stone Cold for the belt.

The group eventually broke up after the Corporate Ministry angle and HHH and Stephanie went on to form the Helmsley-McMahon Faction with remnants of D-X.

Those not making the cut

These stables are barely on the outside looking in:

Heenan's Family WWF: had the superstars, but could not bring down Hulkamania

The Hart Foundation: very good collection of talent

Legion of Doom: fans may not remember, but the L.O.D. was more than Hawk, Animal, and Ellering. At one point they terrorized GCW with Jake Roberts, King Kong Bundy, Buzz Sawyer, Arn Anderson, Matt Bourne, and the Iron Sheik.

n.W.o. WolfPac: the n.W.o. angle was starting to be played out.

Varsity Club: Sullivan was more concerned with berating Rick Steiner than focusing the group to win the World Title. The group had two potential world champions in Mike Rotundo and Dr. Death.

Devastation Inc.: Skandor Akbar's whole purpose was to get a collection of monsters, like Missing Link and Kamala, and terrorize the territory's fan favorite. Usually they would succeed and put out the top good guy for a few months.

2. n.W.o.

The legdrop heard round the world signaled the beginning of the number 2 stable on the list. If they would have just stopped at Hogan, Hall, Nash, the Giant, and Waltman, the group may have taken the top spot.

The group changed wrestling and was the centerpiece for WCW taking over the ratings. Fans were glued to their seats as they wondered who would join the group or who would the group beat the hell out of next.

The most iconic and evil action of the group, besides Hogan's turn, was Nash using Rey Mysterio as a dart.

Later incarnations of the group lost them some credibility and watered down the faction. n.W.o. WolfPac had some luster, but n.W.o. Hollywood was a joke. And do not even mention n.W.o. 2000.

1. The Four Horsemen

Horsemen_display_image

Was there actually any doubt who is the greatest stable of all-time?

Ten years before the n.W.o. was making catchphrases and hand signals cool, the Horsemen cornered the market. Who can ever forget, "Diamonds are forever and so are the Four Horsemen." When the four fingers went up, the fans knew who was coming.

This group was an original. One could say they were an Upper Class version of a street gang. The goal was to keep the belt on Flair, and ask Sting what happens when a member of the group wants to be World Champion.

The Horsemen have had many incarnations over the decades, with the two always involved were Arn and Ric. The original three incarnations were the best and it is debatable to see which of the three was the best.

Ole was replaced by Luger, Luger was replaced by Windham. These three are the top Four Horsemen groups. Sting was too much of a good guy to be a Horseman. Sid was just too damn psycho. Paul Roma was a joke along with Mongo McMichael.

When the group disbanded after Arn and Tully left for the WWF, try as they might, they could never recapture the magic.
