Arsenal's Tight-Money Policy: Is it Making or Breaking Arsenal's Title Hopes?

With Matthieu Flamini already gone to AC Milan in a Bosman move, two more key players in Arsene Wenger's squad, Alexander Hleb and Emmanuel Adebayor, might also be on their way out of the Emirates stadium.

Arsene Wenger recently spoke about the Gunners' money policy, stating that Arsenal are a selling club. And that has been the case for many years now.

Arsenal have sold their top players and replaced them with young players. Patrick Vieira was arguably the most important player in the Arsenal line-up when he moved to Juventus in 2005 for €20 million. His place was filled by Flamini, who became a success before leaving Arsenal to play at the San Siro.

Other players of Wenger's "invincibles," who brought Arsenal glory for about a decade, departed including Freddie Ljungberg who left for West Ham United while Robert Pires went to Villareal.

Last season, the man who was bigger than Highbury, legendary Thierry Henry, was transferred to Barcelona. And the last two years, the Premiership turned into a two-horse race which shows that Arsenal are struggling to keep up with big spenders Manchester United and Chelsea.

Arsene Wenger is the man who made a star of previously-unknown Kolo Abib   Toure. He turned Emmanuel Eboue into one of the best attacking full backs in the world. Wenger's Arsenal produces vibrant displays with his team's basic focus being teamwork through passing the ball around.

Arsenal's money policy has kept Arsenal away from financial insecurity, and produced stars like Fabregas, Hleb and Eduardo. Arsenal has maintained their place in the top four as contenders.

But even Wenger must admit that if Arsenal are to be serious contenders for the Premier League and the Champions League, signing experienced top-class players and keeping their top players is a must.

And since footballers today show little, if any, loyalty, then it is vital that Arsenal star to re-think their plan regarding an increased wage budget if they are serious about mounting a challenge for the Premier League.

What do you think of Arsenal's tight-money policy? Is it making or breaking Arsenal's title hopes?

Do you think Arsenal should sell Adebayor and Hleb? Who should Arsenal sign during the summer in order to compete next season? Have your say!
