I'm not really a fan of Michigan State University, but I love watching college basketball, and I think that MSU has one of the best basketball programs in the NCAA history.
MSU has two titles, the first title was in 1979 and the second was in 2000. But for me, the 1979 title was more exciting. Why? Because it was the beginning of one of the greatest basketball rivalry in the NBA, yes Earvin "Magic" Johnson vs Larry Bird's Sycamores.
What made me pick 1979 MSU over the 2000 MSU? Because the fact that Larry Bird and his Sycamores were undefeated just before the final game, any team that won over an unbeatable team especially in the final was a remarkable performance.
Compare it to 2000's Gators, which the best player was Udonis Haslem, a mediocre NBA player.
Although Magic only spent two years at college, he left the MSU with an NCAA title, so you can't be really that disappoint.
Again, correct me if I'm wrong, like I said I'm not really a big fan of MSU, in fact I'm a Bruins' fan, but that doesn't mean I only like them. I enjoy all college basketball teams.
P.S. There was also an interesting story behind the 1979's team journey to won the title, in the final four MSU faced Pennsylvania, and its fan refused to admit Magic's greatness, as they made some posters to showed it (click this ).
(Fast forward to 01.38, hopefully the link will work)
I guess they believe in Magic now, as the MSU slaughtered them, 101-67.
