As we wind down the final hours leading up to NFL Free Agency, we take a final look at some of the players the Eagles could be targeting.
1. Charles Grant (NO – DE) The Saints announced their intentions of releasing Grant just a few hours ago and it will be interesting to see where the 31 year old defensive end will end up this year. Grant has been a starter for almost the entirety of his career, but he doesn’t provide as much as a pass-rusher as he does against the run. At 6′3″ 280 lbs, he could bulk up and make a move to the interior of the line. With his ability against the run, he could be a nice back up player for the Eagles.
2. Oshiomogho Atogwe (FS -STL) After being slapped with the franchise tags by the Rams in 2009, the team has decided to offer free safety OJ Atogwe the lowest restricted free agent tender available to them. It doesn’t necessarily mean they will match any offer that Atogwe garners, but it does give them the option of exploring his market value in free agency. The Eagles would be smart to extend an offer, but they don’t want to step on the Rams toes in the event that St. Louis is intent on pursuing one of the Eagles quarterbacks in a trade situation.
3. Gerard Warren (DT – OAK) Like I said before, the Eagles defense is desperate for some kind of interior pressure on third downs. Warren is 31 years old who is solid against the run but runs a little hot and cold when asked to rush the passer. With Brodrick Bunkley and Mike Patterson as reliable players on first and second down, the Eagles would be able to bring Warren off the bench on passing downs and allow him to use his 6′4″ 325 lb. frame to collapse the pocket and avoid giving opposing quarterbacks the opportunity to get comfortable.
