What do you think of Tony Gonzalez now?
You hear about NFL players getting in trouble with the law more than anything these days, but not TE Tony Gonzalez.
He did something quite extraordinaire.
Tony Gonzalez, TE for the Kansas City Chiefs, saved a man's life at Capone's restaurant in Huntington Beach, California on Thursday night of last week.
The man was choking on a piece of meat when his girlfriend started yelling.
The victim turned blue, and Gonzalez heard the screaming from his girlfriend and got out of his seat.
She was yelling, “He can’t breathe, he can’t breathe,” Gonzalez said by phone from California, where he lives in the offseason. “The whole restaurant was quiet. Nobody was doing anything.”
Luckily, the victim's table was right behind Gonzalez's.
Gonzalez saved the victim by performing the Heimlich maneuver on him.
Luckily, this man had a 6'5" football player performing the Heimlich maneuver on him because he saved his life, and it takes great strength to perform something like that.
The funny part of the story came when the victim Ken Hunter went to the restroom to realize what just happened, and then he walked back to his table and saw Tony Gonzalez. Just then, he realized that a famous football player saved his life.
Hunter said to Gonzalez many times, "What can I do for you?"
Ken Hunter happens to be a diehard San Diego Charger fan, but he said when he attends the Chargers’ opener versus the Chiefs, he will cheer for Tony Gonzalez.
He said his friends would understand if he cheered for a guy like this, even though he is on the rival team.
Ken Hunter is now Tony's #1 fan.
Luckily, we have high-character guys like this in the NFL.
He isn't just a football player. He is a hero.

This is a great story, it's good to see players showing that they are more than just great athletes. I was about to put up an article about this, but you beat me to it. Great article.

Amazing Story, growing up in KC I often saw how charitable TG was on the news. His has always seemed like such a caring individual, and this is proof.
