Just when you think.......better yet.....HOPE AND PRAY that the Raiders make some intelligent moves in the off season........THEY GO AND DO THIS!
I just don't understand the method behind the madness of Al Davis' decisions sometimes. Does he put the players photo's on a dart board and whoever he hits....thats who keeps in the roster?! I was under the impression that the off-season was to do research, do evaluations, etc, to find and or train people to make the team better the next year. Is Al Davis' purposely trying to tank the team? Doubtful....not likely! But you tend to wonder when you hear about moves like this. Hopefully its not true, but where there's Smoke in Oakland......Al Davis has set a fire.
The most disturbing and sometimes (especially for the last 7 years at least) disappointing thing to me in the off season is this: FANS KNOW what the team needs to get better. FOOTBALL ANALYSTS KNOW what the team needs to get better. THE PLAYERS KNOW what the team needs to get better. The only person without a CLUE is Al Davis. Most people will say that we need O-Line and D-line help the most. Then Line Backer, WR and maybe QB and then DB.
That won't mean diddly squat to Al Davis on Draft day though. I somehow think that he is sitting in his arm chair, with a bib on, wearing orthopedic shoes, eating applesauce, and salivating over Taylor Mays, Bruce Campbell and Dez Bryant. Say it aint so Al!
Let the Face Palming Begin!
OUR TEAM, tendered a 1st Round (WTF?) and a 3rd Round (maybe) for Stanford Routt. (FACE PALM). And tenders Hiram Eugene with a 2nd Round?! (Double Face Palm)
Why the Raiders don't try him out out Strong Side Linebacker is beyond me. And Why they put a higher value on Thomas Howard than him is totally baffling.
TRIPLE FACE PALM! (My face hurts now)
I actually had a couple of other draft picks for Tackle and Guard but they were still 1st and 3rd picks so I will agree with this suggestion. Chris Morris maybe a better option at center than Satelle and Eric Pears HAS to be better than Cornell "False Start" Green.
I would hope that JaMarcus gets his act together and becomes the QB that we need him to be but until that time comes, I'm going with Bruce Almighty. Our WR's are not great but with the upgrades at O-Line and more off-season work and having a year under the rookies belts, they could prove to dangerous. Though Al may want DHB to be the #1 WR, he is CLEARLY not ready, but putting him behind Murphy wouldn't look good either.
The RB situation can really be solved easily. Micheal Bush is NOT happy with being 3rd on the depth chart. He feels like he should be 2nd if not the starter. He did have the only 100+ rushing game(s) last year and his Yd/Carry average is tops among our half backs. He has trade value for someone needing a RB.....LIKE San Diego. (more on that when I get to the Defense). LenDale White saw has seen his production steadily drop with the Titans heavily favoring Chris Johnson, so he is looking for a better opportunity to get more carries. After we trade Micheal Bush to San Diego, he would fill that void nicely. He would be just what we need to run between the tackles and move the pile. We would have our own version of "Smash & Dash" or "Thunder & Lightening".(Lendale is familiar with both) Our Full Backs can't stay healthy and when they do, they aren't that great. Tahi is a Free Agent this year from the Vikings. He would be a welcomed upgrade.
I would much prefer to have Adallius Thomas over Tommy Kelly, but I doubt that would come to fruition. But an upgrade at Defensive Tackle would help take pressure off of our Line Backers. I would actually rotate Seymour in at DT to replace Kelly sometimes too and fill the Defensive End spot with either Matt Shaughnessy or Jay Richardson.
The Smart move at Line Backer (I think EVERYONE agrees with me) is to move Kirk to Strong Side Line Backer. You may not agree with Karlos Dansby in the middle but I think he is a very instinctive player and he would help both in pass coverage and providing run support. No question, that at Weak Side Linebacker, Trevor Scott is a better fit to rush the passer. He had 7 sacks last year.
Here is the continuation of the Micheal Bush trade to San Diego. The Chargers are shopping Cromartie but trade or not......he's outta there this year. We get a much needed upgrade at CB opposite Nnamdi and they get a RB to compliment Micheal Bennett.
The way I figured it (before Al Davis shot my idea down), we would trade Routt (maybe along with Bush to the Chargers) and use Chris Johnson as our Nickel Back and then spend a 4th & 5th round pick on a Corner Back and Line Backer .....release Hiram Eugene.....slide Mike Mitchell to Free Safety behind Huff and place Jerome Boyd in at 2nd string Strong Safety. He played Outside LB in college but is too small for that position in the NFL so he was converted to safety. Use him just like we used Mitchell last year. He's got the size and speed to make an impact.
