The road to the big leagues started for Chicago White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin in Bellflower, California. Growing up in the San Diego area, Quentin was a three-sport star in high school, but his passion was for baseball. He went on to excel at Stanford University, in one of the finest baseball programs in the country.

Quentin was one of the top players in a storied Cardinal program, hitting a career .350 BA, while being named All Pac-10 three years in a row.

His incredible college career led him into the major leagues via the 29th pick overall in the 2003 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He made a quick ascent through the minor leagues after leading the Arizona league in almost all offensive statistical categories.

After a subpar first half of the season with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2007, he spent the rest of the year in Triple-A before being traded to the White Sox.

In the Windy City, Quentin has absolutely flourished. He is one of the finest outfielders in the American League while recording some gaudy offensive numbers. While his batting average isn't the greatest at .273, he has hit 19 home runs and driven in 61 runs, both near the top of the league.

His resurgence has definitely surprised some folks in the Chicago area. After starting the season as a relative unknown, anyone with devotion towards the White Sox knows his name.

Many casual baseball fans would probably believe that star players like Mark Buerhle, Jim Thome, and Jermaine Dye are the big reasons for the White Sox early season success. The latter of that trio, however, is the only truth. It has been a hodge-podge of players such as Quentin who have stolen the show.

As an All-Star this season, Quentin simply wants to keep winning, and continue his magical season into the playoffs.

  1. "It has been a hodge-podge of players such as Quentin who have stolen the show."

This couldn't be more correct. Where would the Sox be without Quentin, Alexei Ramirez, Matt Thornton, Boone Logan, Gavin Floyd, and John Danks? They'd probably be down with Cleveland (!) and Kansas City right about now.

    1. Indeed. Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you agree.
