Carlos Guillen to Represent the Detroit Tigers

Austin DrakeSenior Analyst IJuly 7, 2008

Many preseason expectations have led to this. Only Carlos Guillen will represent the Detroit Tigers in this year's MLB All-Star Game in New York.

Many Tigers were close to becoming All-Stars. Players such as Miguel Cabrera, Ivan Rodriguez, Placido Polanco, Edgar Renteria, and Magglio Ordonez.

Guillen has played third base most of the 2008 after being predicted to play first base. Last season, Guillen played shortstop but after the addition of Gold Glove winner Edgar Renteria, Carlos moved to first. After struggling at first base, Guillen switched with less than mobile Miguel Cabrera to play third base.

Since the move, Guillen has really picked up the leather and wood. Guillen is hitting .286 this season with eight homers and 44 runs batted in. In 134 attempts at third this season Guillen has made only nine errors.

This is Guillen's third selection to the All-Star game. He will be a reserve on Terry Francona's American League roster.
