Breaking News: Flames Ink Bertuzzi
A day after the Calgary Flames lost veteran forward Owen Nolan to the Minnesota Wild, General Manager Darryl Sutter announced the signing of free agent forward Todd Bertuzzi to a contract worth 1.95 million over the next season.
Bertuzzi, a native of Sudbury, ON, has played 793 games over the course of his 12 seasons in the NHL with Vancouver, Florida, Detroit, and Anaheim.
A big and powerful forward who has the ability to play on either side of the ice, he has a chance to play on the same line with captain Jarome Iginla.
Originally drafted by the NY Islanders in the first round, 23rd overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Bertuzzi has been chosen twice to play in the NHL All-Star Game (2003 and 2004) and was named to the NHL First All-Star Team in 2003.
He has twice represented Canada at the World Championships (1998 and 2000) and at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, Italy.
