As a follow-up to the story initially broken right here on B/R, Jim Beam's NASCAR race driver Robby Gordon wanted to help out with the campaign to save the name of Wrigley Field. So, he's approved a 'Save Our Name.com' paint scheme for his car.

As previously reported, Jim Beam is sponsoring a billboard outside of Wrigley Field, along with a petition drive designed to implore the new owners of the Cubs not to sell the name of the Cubs ballpark to a corporate sponsorship.

When Gordon found out about this endeavor, he immediately offered to help. So he had 'Save Our Name' put on the hood of his Dodge. He will run his No. 7 car this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.

"I know what it is like when Jim Beam gets behind something", Gordon said. "They are creating the same buzz with Wrigley Field. Putting SaveOurName.com on the hood of the car is my way of showing support for the Chicago community and I'm excited to help spread the word."

Don't forget to click on  SaveOurName.com and sign the petition to save the name of historic Wrigley Field.

  1. is this the same guy who " helped out" by throwing some roll bar padding out the window during a race to pull the yellow flag ???? the same guy who took millions for sponsorship in a rally and then refused to return the funds when he didn't run the rally???
    just wondering

    1. Yep, same guy.

    2. nope..it's the same guy who auctioned off the helmet he threw at Michael Waltrip for 50,000+ and donated it Katrina victims.

it's the same guy who I have personally seen spend hours at his trailer on arace weekend and go out of his way for hanidcap kids and give them free stuff sign autographs for, take pictures, and talk to them and bring a little sunshine to their day...

it's the same guy who actually took a $4 million dollar bath on the Dakar Rally in January until they ran it in Central Europe in April which enabled him to fulfill his contractual duties to get his money..you are WAY inaccurate on that..

as for the roll bar padding..uhmm yeah he did that..but nobody's perfect....lol

    3. Yes, that's Robby! Resourceful isn't he! A true American!

The rally money went into the team & truck. That's what the sponsor paid for, not Robby's fault that there was a war on. They'll get their rally when it's safe.

  2. The link didn't work, and I tried to type in the address and that didn't work. I want to sign the petition, I just can't.

  3. worked for me. i signed for all Oriole fans.

  4. I'd like to see it saved, as a baseball fan.

  5. This is the same guy that Donated his Total Winnings after winning his First Nascar Race at Loudon to the 9-11 Fund.

    Robby is a True American!!!

  6. So JIM BEAM is spending money on the JIM BEAM Save Our Name campaign? If JIM BEAM is Sucessfull in the JIM BEAM Save Our Name campaign then JIM BEAM will get plenty of media attention for JIM BEAM.

It is Terrible that WRIGLEY Field could possible be remaned not as WRIGLEY field. How dare they use a corporate name instead of WRIGLEY to name that beautiful ballpark known as WRIGLEY Field.

  7. Hey everyone. I work with Beam and wanted to thank everyone for the comments and for signing the petition, if you did.

Tony - We hear ya. Valid point, certainly, but not why we're doing it. Sure, we might get a little PR benefit, but it's not like what we're doing sells our product. If you get to know what we're doing with TheStuffInside.com and the effort to celebrate character, you'll see that. But thanks for the comments nonetheless.

And Joe, I'm sorry, but because we're a spirits company, you have to be of legal drinking age to get through to the petition. However, we're aware of a similar effort at KeepItWrigley.com you should have no trouble getting to. We're both out to do the same thing, so both petitions are good places to go.

You guys rock. Thanks for the feedback.

  8. While we all have bone headed moments, Robby Gordon is a die hard and he loves racing and he loves his fans.He owns his car he drives each week and run unsponsored some weeks, and in NASCAR a single car organization is sucidal and risky so I am glad to see Jim Beam on the hood. He's made some choice mistakes but you can't question his loyalty to his sponsors and NASCAR.As a Cub fan and a NASCAR fan its great to see.. let's hope he has a good race on Saturday night in Joliet and plenty of air time, to get the word out. NASCAR is one of the best marketing machines in sports so why not use this the race on Saturday night to promote something all sports fans should be interested in.
