Norman, Oklahoma: An unnamed source that represents the marketing department for Oklahoma University has confirmed to Northssports that the Sooners are in the development stages for marketing a new logo for the University.  This logo will simply be the inverted “Longhorn” logo.

Multiple calls were made to Oklahoma administrator’s but none were answered and no calls have been returned but it has been rumored for months that this action would be taken so that Oklahoma fans can show their hatred for the University of Texas in a way that will unite Sooners old and new.

At this point, it remains unclear when this new logo will become official but speculation around campus is that this logo could be adopted as early as October 2010 when the next Red River Rivalry will be played against arch-rival Texas at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.  The annual affair normally pits two of the most powerful football teams in College Football as well as the two best programs in the Big 12.  In fact, either Texas or Oklahoma has represented the South Division of the Big 12 in all but two conference championship games with a combined nine championships between them.

A current student majoring in Business Administration at the University of Oklahoma who wished to remain anonymous said that the decision to change the logo was absurd.  He added that Oklahoma and the rest of the conference must strive to create their own identities rather than borrowing the identity of another institution and promoting Texas’ product at the same time as its being demeaned.  On the other hand, a well-known alum who also wished to remain anonymous is very excited about the change.  She says that there is no better way to represent Sooner pride than hating Texas and showing the nation.  She also said that she would lobby to University officials to try and adopt the inverted “Hook ‘Em” sign as the official OU hand sign.
