The Indians and Brewers have a deal in place that will send former Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia to the Brewers for Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta and two other minor leaguers in return.
The Brewers will not give up Alcides Escobar and Mat Gamel in the deal.
Sabathia will join Ben Sheets in the rotation, making the Brewers a contender in the NL Central race.
The deal was initially reported in The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, as well as ESPN.
Sabathia is not expected to re-sign with the Brewers at the end of the season. If he leaves, Milwaukee will receive two first-round picks.

I still dont know why the Brewers made this deal he is going to leave at the end of the season and does the deal really push them to the top of the central?

I think he does. Besides, never underestimate two first rounders. With three first round picks, there will be year when Milwaukee could be scary good.

Exactly what andrew said. LaPorta was a 1st round pick, and the brewers are damn good at drafting prospects. I like it.

In addition to the two picks.. Some like to think that LaPorta was just a very useful trading chip for the Brewers considering they already have Braun and Fielder.
CC makes this rotation that much better. It takes the pressure off all the others and I don't know what Gallardo's status is, but when he gets back they will have a really solid staff going for them.

I think this was a bad trade for the Brewers. Not that CC isnt good. Hes a stud. After this season is over, both Sheets and CC will be free agents and both will demand top dollar. They cant resign both, and will have a hard time singing even one. They should have made a move for a different SP (Harden) AND possibly Fuentes from Rockies. This type of move would have upgraded SP but helped their bullpen since that is their weakest area.
Lets see if they Cubs will counter and pick up some pitching help too.

when you look at the prospects the brewers have in the outfeild plus the fact that Prince is not a free agent until 2011 you realize the brewers didn't give anything that can't be replaced. If CC leaves that allows them to start the next wave of prospects coming up with extra picks (over the last 4 or 5 years their scouting department has been tremendous in drafting). I'm sorry-the next to next wave (i've heard that their double a team has nine legit prospects before this trade-the indians only get one of them!) Time will tell-but if they make the playoffs and do well-plus are able to reload this might be the day that we look back at and say 'This is the day the Brewers became relevant'
