The Boston Red Sox won’t waste any time placing prospect Casey Kelly on the mound for its first exhibition — part of a doubleheader — against Northeastern University on March 3, manager Terry Francona told reporters Saturday at spring training in Fort Myers, Fla.

Boof Bonser will start the second doubleheader game on Wednesday against Boston College. Josh Beckett, Tim Wakefield and Jon Lester will face the Minnesota Twins later in the week. (New acquisition John Lackey will pitch March 6 against the Twins.) Clay Buchholz will start March 7 against Baltimore.
