With the new Arena Football League getting ready to begin, fans of the former Wilkes Barre Scranton Pioneers are beginning to demand to have their hometown team back. The Arena Football 1 League is set to begin in April with 15 teams from across the United States, but Wilkes Barre Scranton isn't one of them.

Last year, the Wilkes Barre Scranton Pioneers were one of the most successful and also popular teams in the Arena Football II League. But with the sale of their team and no immediate buyer coming forward, the team failed to field a squad in the new league. However nothing seems to be keeping the Pioneers fans from hoping for a team in 2011. "I don't really care what they have to do." Said Joe S. from Scranton. "Whether they have to get a new name, new coaches and players, a new everything. All we want is to be able to go see our team play again."

Typically if a sports franchise expects to never step foot on a field again they will sell of their equipment to other organizations, this did not happen in Wilkes Barre. As of right know most of the equipment is stored elsewhere in Pennsylvania, hoping to be used at least one more time.

"We were one of the most successful teams in the AF2, just ask any fan of the game." Said Joe S. "We were always right on the edge of winning a championship. It's not fair to sweep away the team from the fans when they've tried year in and year out."

Mike from Wilkes Barre, PA also had this to add... "The Wachovia Arena is now the Mohegan Sun Arena. We all know Mohegan Sun has endless funds coming their way every day. If they know the fans want a team, they should field a team for them. Win or lose."

Whether you're a fan of the game or not, arena football has some of the most dedicated and intense fans in the history of professional sports. One thing you'll notice about the fans of the former Wilkes Barre Scranton Pioneers is this... They don't care who owns them, who coaches them, or who plays for them. But they want a team and nothing would make them more happy. Mohegan Sun Arena, give them what they want and they'll love and support you forever.
