There are few events in sports that get the amount of passion as the NFL draft. Every team in the NFL and every college team that has prospects invovled has a stake in what happens. That is awful lot of passionate fan bases who take the draft very personally. In this slide show I will go through the 5 prospects that in the course of doing mock drafts have illiceted the most anger. Now all of these guys have been said to have been going way to high or way to low in the opinion of fans.
Colt McCoy is a winner. The NCAA's all time win leader has a widely varied draft stock among experts.
Colt's supporters are many in numbers. He is an excellent athlete and an accurate passer. He is thought be a strong leader who commands the huddle.
The knocks on McCoy are arm strength and his ability to run a pro offense. Even before his arm injury in the national title game people questioned Colt's ability to get the ball down the field. Questions have also come up about his ability to read defenses and make in play adjustments at the pro level.
Tim Tebow is one of the most beloved college athletes in history. That is why some people take offense to the suggestion that he is not an elite NFL prospect.
There is no question that Tebow is a leader of men. The questions are about his ability to throw the football. His accuracy and throwing motion have been put under a microscope ever sense he came on the scene. Tebow is currently working on changing his delivery and will debut the new throwing motion at Florida's pro day.
Mays is the boom or bust pick of this draft. It's 50/50 in most fan bases that need a safety whether or not they would like to draft Mays in the first round.
Mays is a freak athlete with elite speed and strength at the safety position. At 230 lbs Mays huge for the position and that fact is seen as both a positive and a negative. The question is can Mays use his athleticism to become a play maker at the next level.
JPP is one of the most polarizing figures in this draft. He is said by many experts be a no brainer top ten pick taken as high as the Tampa Bay Bucs pick number three overall. Many others have him as a second round pick with a high potenial to be a bust.
The disconnect with JPP comes from the gap between his physical skill and his production at South Florida. Pierre-Paul played only one season of division one football and had only six and a half sacks. JPP has the frame and physicality to be a great player in the NFL but he will have to show the motor and the football IQ in interviews and workouts to remain a top prospect..
Clausen has been put as high as pick one in this years draft. For every fan of Clausen there is an opposing Clausen hater. While many believe that the debate for who the top QB in this draft is between Clausen and Bradford their is more of a consenus on Bradford's stock.
The pros for Clausen are obvious. He played in a pro style at Notre Dame and show great accuracy. He has decent size and arm strength with the ability to make reads and protection adjustments.
The cons have more to do with his leadership skills. There are many questions about his charisma and ability to lead professional athletes. The ditractors will also say that Clausen doesn't have elite atleticism or arm strength.
The combine interviews will be paramount to Clausen's draft stock.
