In response to my previous article regarding picks who I could see the 49ers draft based on previous draft history, I have compiled a pre combine mock based on who I would prefer to see the 49ers draft. I'll try to compile a new mock after the combine. As always opinions and comments are appreciated.
Spiller would be an excellent choice for the 49ers at this position. Spiller wouldn't be the feature back as Gore would fill that position. Spiller would still see significant playing time as a kick/ punt returner, slot receiver, and 5 to 10 snaps as a change of pace running back. Other players the 49ers should consider at this position would be Bryan Bulaga, Joe Haden, and Trent Williams.
The No. 13 or No. 17 pick has to be a tackle, right? That is what the fans wanted last year; however, this year with two picks the 49ers have to address a need. Williams will be expected to start from day one.
A smart safety with skills. Rolle could play in nickel situations (Mark Roman's role) and eventually replace Michael Lewis as the starter at strong safety.
Ciron could provide depth at the tackle position or slide over to guard and compete for a starting position.
I would like to see the 49ers draft at least two offensive lineman. Another offensive lineman would be excellent but highly unlikely. Jerry would provide depth and would have a chance to compete for a starting job.
This would be an excellent pickup in this round for the 49ers. Thurmond can cover and has return abilities.
I really struggled with this pick. I have the 49ers drafting Ajirotutu to come in and compete for a roster spot.
Unfortunatly, O'Brien Schofield tore his ACL in Senior Bowl practices; however, the 49ers could use his pass rushing ability and take him with this late round pick. Schofield probably wouldn't play at all his rookie year, as he recovers, but would have a chance to learn the playbook and other mental aspects of the game. This would be an excellent pick if Schofiled is still available at this spot.
