The Buffalo Sabres finally made a move to bolster their blueline by adding gritty defenseman Craig Rivet.
Rivet, 33, was acquired from San Jose along with a 7th round selection for two second round selections, one in the 2009 and the other in 2010.
Rivet is known for his rugged play on the blue line will give Buffalo something they have been missing for 2 seasons.
Rivet has the bring your lunchbox to work attitude that Buffalo has lacked for the past few seasons.
That should work well for a team that has struggled to find their way defensively as of late. Goaltender Ryan Miller may be able to sleep a bit better at night knowing that he may not be having liberties taken on him on a regular basis anymore.

I wouldn't call Rivet gritty or rugged. At least not in his years with San Jose. McLaren: Grit. Murray: Grit. Rivet? Not Grit.

He spent a whopping 1 full season in San Jose. Rivet is somewhere is the area of 50 NHL fights including 6 last season. He is much more gritty than what Buffalo has had in recent times. Mclaren had a whopping 4. Murray had more but I would tend to think Murray should be a bit more prone to fighting .

ya, and i got to see every single game he played. He was an upright defensemen who preferred not to hit. I'm gonna miss him. I liked Rivet, but i wouldnt call him gritty.

Ok to please the masses I will call him rugged. Is that a better description?
But I will also site his time as a Habs. Where he was 5th in the team in hitting, led the team in blocked shots, is near the top in penalties, and has a handful of fights a season.
