Pre Combine Pittsburgh Steelers 7 Round NFL 2010 Mock Draft
The Steelers started sluggish this year at 1-2, but then went on to win their next 5 games. At 6-2 midway through the season I thought they were a shoo in for the playoffs. I watched in horror as the Steelers dropped their next 5 games essentially eliminating them from the playoffs. The Steelers still remained barely alive in the playoff hunt after winning their last 3 games. They were eliminated due to tie breakers in the end. This season brought to light the rapidly aging defense and luckily this draft is very deep defensively. I will not be considering compensatory picks.
Round 1 Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa
Offensive line has been an area of concern the last few years as Roethlisberger has taken far too many sacks. Some of these have been his fault and he admits it, but at times the offensive line was down right horrendous. In the loss to the Browns the line was playing worse than the Lions.
Round 2 Pick Cam Thomas DT North Carolina
At 6-4 331 Cam Thomas's stock has been steadily rising and Pittsburgh needs another DT because Big Snack is getting old.
I would say Terrence Cody here, but it appears Mike Tomlin doesn't like dealing with players that have weight issues.
Round 3 Pick Sean Lee ILB Penn State
James Farrior seemed to have lost a step last year and was ineffective in pass coverage at times.
If Lee is able to stay healthy he could become one of the next great Steelers linebackers.
Round 4 Pick Myron Rolle S Florida State/Oxford
A lack of depth at the safety position was exposed when Polamalu was injured this year.
Myron Rolle hurt his draft stock by sitting out a year to become a Rhodes Scholar and I believe this could be the steal of the draft.
This would be a perfect pick as he already has chemistry with players in the organization from working out with Ike Taylor, Santonio Holmes, James Farrior and William Gay.
Round 5 Pick Perry Riley OLB LSU
The Steelers continue to stock up on D. This pick gives the Steelers better depth at outside linebacker should Woodley or Harrison go down to injury.
Round 6 Eric Olsen C Notre Dame
The Steelers use a pick to try and improve perhaps the weakest position on the line.
Round 7 Sherrick McManis CB Northwestern
With Deshea Townsend perhaps leaving for another team or retiring and the less than stellar play at corner last year this pick makes sense. His draft stock is hurt because he is coming off a leg injury.
