Just announced that Mark Martin will run the full season for Hendrick Motorsports.
Martin replaces Casey Mears in the number 5 and will join Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. as teammates.
Martin stated he missed driving and this was a long sort opportunity for him because the flame to drive full time again had been rekindled and he had wanted to drive for Rick Hendricks most of his career.
But can Martin really compete for the cup? He qualifies excellent and he uses his head when he drives and finishes in the top 10-15.
Maybe the drive to race full time has been rekindled but is the drive to take the chances one needs to win races there? Is he ready to put his car in the right place and take the chance to pass or bump someone out of the way as the young guns are, such as Kyle Busch?
Can he put his car and himself into situations that may take his life in order to win or will family and friends enter his mind before the critical move and he backs off and just can't make the right move? Drivers seems to become more cautious as they become older and have a family.
He's going to have a car to win with Hendricks Motor Sports but will he be able to actually do what it takes to win. For Martin's sake that drive needs to be there. He has won almost everything and Daytona win and a Championship would finish off a great career.
