Cubs won 6-5 over the Giants after Mike Fontenot hit a late inning home run to propel the Cubs to a victory. The Cubs got on the board in the second inning when Jim Edmonds came in and scored after Matt Murton grounded into a double play. They later scored in the sixth inning when Jim Edmonds hit a two-run home run to give the Cubs 3-0 lead.
The Giants John Bowker put his team on the board in the bottom of the sixth when he hit a two-run home run to make the game 3-2. The Cubs added to their lead in the top of the seventh when Geovany Soto hit a two-run single giving the Cubs a 5-2 lead. The Giants tied the game up in the bottom of the inning when Ray Durham hit a two-run home run. Then in the top of the eighth Mike Fontenot broke the tie with a solo blast that gave the Cubs a 6-5 lead an eventual win.
Starter Ryan Dempster got a no decision as he went six innings allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking two. The win went to Carlos Marmol who allowed three earned runs in his inning of work.
As for the Giants starter Kevin Correia he pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking three. The loss however went to Tyler Walker who gave up the game winning home run to Fontenot in the eighth inning.
Today the Cubs will send Sean Gallagher to mound who is 3-3 with 4.36 era as Tim Lincecum who is 9-1 with a 2.38 era goes for the Giants.
