Knicks fans, remember David Lee? You know your All-Star Foward averaging 20 and 10.

Well his contract expires this year too. And while we(Knicks fans) celebrate about how we finally have the cap space to offer maximum contracts to two free agents this summer we dont even run a thought through our minds about losing this 26 year old homegrown superstar.

Although the possibility of acquiring any combination of Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson or Carlos Boozer would make the Garden shake. We cant guarantee getting any of those guys.

With nearly half of the NBA teams able to offer at least one maximum contract this summer how can we expect to reel in two of these guys?

While we do have the advantage of a bigger market in New York and the thrill of playing at the Garden, we also have one of the worst teams in the NBA and are still recovering from the days of "Fire Isiah!!" chants.

There are no guarantees in free agency.

If "The King" and "Flash" end up elsewhere. Who would want to come here? Why would a guy like Bosh or Joe Johnson want to come to New York and start all over again if there going to be the only star shining in the big apple?

The answer is they wouldn't.

So instead of going into free agency with a squad filled out by the likes of Toney Douglas, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari and Eddie Curry. Why not go into it with an All-Star already on the roster and enough money to sign one free agent at the maximum(Lebron, Wade, Bosh) and still about $5 million left to sign another solid free agent or a top one taking a paycut to win.

Because lets face the facts the chances of any combination of Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh coming to New York would be unlikley.

So instead of running the risk of not getting two top tier free agents this summer the Knicks should realize that they have one right in front of their faces.

Pairing Lee with Lebron or Wade would give either player arguably the best teammate each player has played with(other then Shaq with Dwayne). Not to mention still having enough money to bring in another contributor like lets say Marcus Camby.

Even if the Knicks miss out on a top free agent having Lee gives other guys incentive to come play at the Garden like Joe Johnson or Chris Bosh.

Because I guarentee you that no star is going to want to come to New York if their roster is filled out by 11 no-name players. And if so the last two years will be totally wasted.

So if the Knicks take the sure thing here in Lee and bring in at least one top-tier free agent along with him they will not be the laughing stock of the NBA any longer, and they will be finally be the ones laughing.
