Miami Hurricanes Basketball: Duke's Coach K Confiscates Conch
Are you kidding me? What's wrong with blowing into a conch shell during a college basketball game in South Florida?
During the Miami vs. Duke basketball game on Feb. 17, 2010, Coach K of Duke complained of a horn sound coming from the fan section. Soon, Miami officials found a conch shell in a student's possession, and soon it was taken away.
You have to give that student at the U credit for leveraging the power of the conch. It's environmentally friendly, it's provides a lovely sound, and it irritated Coach K.
What I don't understand is why Coach K was allowed to dictate what could and could not be in an away gym. The folks at the U should have told Coach K to worry about his team and allowed the conch to sing.
Conchgate could have been born.
"Blow this!" could have been the new cry of the U. The opportunity is lost forever.
Seriously, I think Miami should embrace the conch. I challenge the student body of Miami to bring conches to the stadium and blow them loudly and proudly.
Long live the conch!
