Today: The Birth of Roberto Baggio Offsets The Deaths of Two Legends

We’re not here to bring you down.  That’s not what we do.  Unless, of course, you’re highly offended by our portrayal of mustached softball players.  Nevertheless, on this day, two sporting legends passed away.

Harry Caray in 1998….and Dale Earnhardt in 2001.

We could tailspin this post into countless videos of Will Ferrell or, even better, John Campanera doing Harry Caray impersonations….or we could create a nice little collage of Dale Earnhardt’s iconic lower nose beard.  In our minds, both actions would serve as legit remembrance.

But we can do better on this somber day.  For it is also the birthday of Italian soccer legend, Roberto Baggio – who owns one of the finest lids in the history of professional athletics.  Its legacy is the inability for categorization.  Mullet?  Ponytail?  Braid?  Perm?  Um, sure.  All of the above, please.

Roberto Baggio

Frankly, it’s in a class by itself…and without the birth of a man with the cajones to bear it, we may have never experienced such greatness.
