Campbell is out, but the Sharks D isn't going to be without a top tier showing, at least in name.
According to the Mercury News blogger David Pollak, the Sharks have enlisted Former Kings' vet Rob Blake to a 1 year contract for $5 million.
While not a huge contributor on paper, (9-31-40 in 07-08) his experience will no doubt be the key to the young San Jose defense corps in the coming year. And he would have plenty more opportunities to light the lamp with the more agile lines of the Sharks.
Another name buzzing about is Dan Boyle, the Lightning's big 'n burly sniper, who would be a really solid addition and a capable replacement for the departed Campbell. While he is coming off of an injury-troubled season, if he can stay healthy, he is young enough to make a long term contribution and balance the age differential created by Blake.
I too had begun to despair about the coming season and all of the UFA disappearing acts, but there seems to be a spark and perhaps some fire left in Doug Wilson's bag of tricks.

Blake turns out to be more than a rumour. We have nothing to offer Tampa for Boyle, so I can't see that happening unless Patty waves his no-trade clause.
Did you mean to have barley any of your picture show up?

as it turns out. we have plenty to offer tampa for boyle. ryan clowe, christian ehrhoff, and marcel goc are all restricted free agents that we have not yet signed. it is a definite possibility that this was intentionally done so that we would have something to give if boyle came on the table. the lightning are in a rebuilding stage, that doesnt mean we have to give away someone like marleau for it to work.
and that picture is supposed to be symbolic moron.

#1: I am glad that it turned out we did have enough to offer Tampa. But they are not rebuilding in the traditional sense, wherein a team is looking to reload for several years down the road. They are trying to build a contender now, so it was logical to assume they would not be interested in prospects since that was not in keeping with the pattern they had developed. Plus if you were following the details, you would have known that Boyle did not want to leave Tampa because he has established family roots there--another reason to not suspect a trade would work.
#2:You know that the picture was supposed to be symbolic? I'm sorry--I thought your name was Lee, not Vincent. I asked Vincent because I thought that may have been his intention.
#3: Here in the Sharks community, we have respect for one another and do not call others morons. Perhaps that is fitting for Neanderthals, but not for intelligent people who do not have to resort to name-calling to raise our pathetic selves up.
