Colorado Avalanche- Signed Daniel Tjarnqvist.  Tjarnqvist is a fairly talented young defenseman that will help this team out a fair amount.  They really don’t have too much to do this offseason, and they are already prepared for the 2008-2009 season.  Grade- A-

Columbus Blue Jackets- Signed Kristian Huselius.  Huselius is a great player who will add a lot of depth to the Jackets’ roster.  He will be able to work well with Nash and company  Grade- B

Minnesota Wild- Signed Antti Miettinan.  This is a very minor signing, but another step in the right direction for the Wild.  Grade- B+

Montreal Canadiens- Signed Georges Laraque.  Laraque is a great player who is a fan favorite.  He is like Donald Brashear and Riley Cote put together.  This is an unbelievable signing for the Canadiens.  Grade- A-

New York Rangers- Signed Markus Naslund and Dmitri Kalinin.  Two amazing signings for the Rangers.  Naslund should succeed in New York and Kalinin is a great player from Buffalo that will help the team out.  This has been an unbelievable offseason for them.  Grade- A+

Phoenix Coyotes- Signed David Hale.  A decent defenseman who will help fill out the team.  Grade- B-

Pittsburgh Penguins- Signed Miroslav Satan, Ruslan Fedetenko, and Marc-Andre Fleury.  Three amazing signings for a team that does not need much.  Fleury’s extension is crucial, and Satan and Fedetenko are two great second-liners who will help this team get back to the finals.  Grade- A+

San Jose Sharks- Signed Rob Blake.  A good signing to try and replace Brian Campbell.  Blake is no Campbell, but he still has some juice left in the tank.  Grade- B

Washington Capitals- Signed Keith Aucoin.  Aucoin is an okay forward who will help out the Caps’ roster.  Grade- B

  1. With all respect that is due I disagree about Naslund. His decline has been steep since his monster 2002. He has consistently gone down in points over the past six years and will have to deal with the pressure of replacing Jagr in New York.

  2. I have to agree with you Rangers and Pens did some good deals satan will fill in some what of hossa's spot by helping out with the powerplay and with a man down amazing day for the rangers just adding some more talent and leadership to there team. Great article!

  3. I don't really think the Pens are quite like they were this past year, but the signings should help some. Also i think Blake is more to replace Mclaren. Thats why San Jose is so dire to get Boyle, they hope he would replace Campbell in their team. Anyway, just my take.

  4. Question: are any of these going to be worse than 'Cs'?

  5. yes, basically teams that havent done anything yet...the grades are based on what needs to be done this offseason, so even the smallest acquisition raises the grade slightly
