It was nine innings of strong pitching from both teams, but the Giants managed to squeak by the Cubs on Tuesday night. Kevin Graczyk recaps.

The San Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 Tuesday behind an excellent pitching performance by Matt Cain, who went eight innings allowing no earned runs on just two hits while striking out ten and walking three.

The Giants got on the board first when Fred Lewis came in to score when he stole home. Their second run came in on a Randy Winn single that scored Lewis, making the score 2-0.

The Cubs lone run came in the ninth when Geovany Soto singled in Derrek Lee. The Cubs offense managed just five hits on the night, and only came up with the one run. 

Pitcher Jason Marquis pitched a great game in which he went seven innings, allowing the two earned runs on four hits while striking out five and walking three. With the loss he fell to 6-5 on the season. 

Wednesday the Cubs will send Ryan Dempster to the mound; Dempster is 9-3 with a 3.26 ERA.  Kevin Correia, who is 1-5 with a 4.79 ERA, goes for the Giants. Game time is set for 9:15 pm ct.
