We have all heard the story of "The Miracle on Ice," Team USA's victory over the Soviet Union in 1980. It's this Olympic team that is the premise of the Disney movie Miracle.
Mark Johnson just happens to be the guy that scored two of the four goals that led to Team USA's 4-3 victory and Olympic gold medal.
Now Johnson is back at it, this time coaching the USA women's hockey team.
The players all have a great deal of respect for Johnson, and rightly so. But he isn't as concerned about his Olympic past as the media seems to be.
"I've been on championship teams and teams that didn't make the playoffs," said Johnson. "I've been a captain and I've been on the fourth line. I can understand almost every situation they're going to be in and help them."
Don't get him wrong, Johnson isn't one to talk about his Olympic days and gold medals simply to toot his own horn. "They all know I have a gold medal, but that was my time and place. This is their journey," Johnson states.
And he's right. Team USA has quite the journey ahead of them and could very well end up playing in the gold medal game. They could quite possibly follow in their coaches footsteps and win gold.
Only time will tell if Mark Johnson is USA hockey's good luck charm!
I'm hoping that he is.
