Win or lose? The Toronto Maple Leafs of July 1st - 2nd 2008

As I begin to write this article it is 7:56pm and today there has been no news out of leaf land other than Sundin waiting to make a decision. However yesterday there was lots with three signings, Cujo, Hagman, and Finger. Lets start off with the Jeff Finger signing. First of all I hate this move, the reason: the money. Finger has gone through one full year in the NHL and it wasn't a great one. Over 4 years the leafs are paying him $4 million a year! That it way to much money for a guy I think will only score 5 - 7 goals this year with 15 - 20 assists. Now I would like to tip my hat to Cliff Fletcher for the Cujo deal. I think that it is a great fit for him with a 1 year, $700 000 deal because to round out his career that's the right amount of years and money. I think that he will be a great backup to Vesa Toskala playing about 12 games. However Cliff made up for the Finger deal by signing Niklas Hagman. Hagman had 27 goals for Dallas and it a great fit for people like Steen or Stajan (who has yet to receive an offer sheet). Hagman also reminds me a lot of Darcy Tucker with the way they play. I still think that the Leafs should have kept Darcy. I would now like to wish good luck to Darcy Tucker in Colorodo who I think will have a much better year the next two years with the Avs, scoring 20 - 30 goals. Now to end this article I would just like to say that the Chicago Blackhawks have now paid way to much, according to TSN they are about $6 millions above the salary cap. With the signings of Brian Campbell (great job) and Cristobal Huet (horrible job). The Hawks spent way to much money on Huet who is now going to make MORE the Martin Brodeur!

Now hopefully I can write tomorrow about days two and three of free agency 2008.

Till then, good luck to you, and whomever your favorite team may be.
