Kevin Slowey is Hot! Slowey is turning it on at the right time for fantasy owners. He has won three of his last four starts with a no decision in a game that the Twins won late.

In his last start he pitched a complete game shutout against the Brewers. In that game he struck out eight while walking none. He threw just 109 pitches 79 of them for strikes. He gave up only three hits while exhibiting remarkable control and command of all pitches.

In his past eight starts he has a 2.72 ERA and a WHIP of 0.98 in 53 innings. His walk to strikeout ratio is 6:1 the best in the majors among starters.

I was able to pick him up as a free about a month ago and he is still available in many of the Yahoo! Fantasy leagues. Search quickly to see if he is available in your league. Slowey

  1. Some solid data to back this up. Great note on his K:BB ratio.

I like Slowey. His issue early in the year was home runs, but he's been better about that in his last several outings. Just two home runs in his last 31 innings. That's huge for him.

He doesn't dominate with a fastball, and needs his secondary pitches to be solid. It helps him work corners that way. When he keeps the fastball down, he becomes more effective with the off-speed pitches. When batters can wait on his junk, he gets hit hard. But that seems to be less often.

I think if you're looking for someone to replace Brett Myers, he's not a bad call. He's probably my second favorite Twins pitcher though, behind Scott Baker.

    1. Blackburn remains my third or fourth favorite Twins pitcher, behind Baker, Slowey, and potentially Liriano.

  2. Scott Baker was available. I dumped Randy Wolf. Thanks for the tip!
