Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will reportedly miss this year's Home Run Derby despite the fact the event will be held at his home ballpark, Yankee Stadium.
Fans certainly want to see him participate in the annual event, but A-Rod has decided to opt out in order to, according to an Associated Press report, "protect his finely tuned swing."
Barry Bonds was scrutinized for wanting to skip the Home Run Derby in 2007 in San Francisco, with many suggesting the home run king was selfish and didn't care about fans.
I wonder what kind of reaction the sometimes hypocritical fans and media members will have regarding A-Rod's intentions to skip the event.

I think that it is A-Rods call. I understand the fans will want to see him there, especially in his home ballpark.
Me, I don't blame him for missing the game after I saw what happened to David Wrights home run numbers the year after he dominated the home run derby. Don't get me wrong, I don't understand what affect the derby should have on the swing, but for some reason it does.
Maybe its the Madden curse of baseball??

What is your fuckin' fetish with comparing the treatment of Barry Bonds to everyone else in the world?

It's unfair treatment.

not right, coming from a true yankee fan, he has to represent us. He owes it to the game.

He may owe it to the game, but if he falls into a slump, you will quickly retract your statement.
