World Number 3 and defending champions Novak Djokovic went into the Semi Final of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome full of confidence following his superb form throughout the week. In the Semi Finals Djokovic was to face the world number 1 Roger Federer Djokovic had won the pair last match in Miami. Federer who was a finalist in Rome in 2006 before losing an epic 5 set match to Rafael Nadal made the perfect start by winning the 1st set 6-4. Djokovic however managed to win the 2nd set 6-3 to level the match at one set all. The Serb then fought back from a break down in set 2 to win it 6-3 as well and take the match 4-6 6-3 6-3. Djokovic went on to lose the final to the world number 2 Rafael Nadal in straight sets. The Serb then went on to reach the last 4 in the Masters 1000 event in Madrid the following week before once again losing to Nadal.
