Cleveland Browns Quarterback Options: 2010 Season and Beyond

It is no secret that the Cleveland Browns need to figure out who their quarterback will be for the 2010 season.
Thankfully, owner Randy Lerner hired new president Mike Holmgren, whose specialty is evaluating NFL quarterbacks.
He has gone to Super Bowls with different quarterbacks throughout his career, and if there is one thing that he can bring to the Browns, it is an end to the seemingly never-ending quarterback carousel that has been taking place since 1999.
The following (in no particular order) are quarterbacks that Holmgren will be looking at for the Browns for their 2010 season.
Brady Quinn
Quinn is an unknown, and unfortunately, he has also gone on the Injured Reserve the past two seasons, which has prohibited him from making that next step to become a solid NFL quarterback after his first three seasons in the NFL.
Loved by many of the fans in Cleveland, Quinn has shown an uncanny ability to study the game of football and make proper adjustments at the line of scrimmage before the ball is snapped.
Holmgren will need to decide if Quinn is the future, but remember Saints quarterback Drew Brees had tough times in his first three seasons in the NFL, and look what he just accomplished.
Matt Hasselbeck
Hasselbeck was Holmgren's quarterback in Seattle, whom he brought over from his coaching days with Green Bay.
Now with a new coach and front office, the Seahawks are going to be rebuilding the team, and Hasselbeck may not be in their future plans.
Even though he has had some injury issues recently, Haselbeck still has a few years left in him since he is only 34.
Donovan McNabb
McNabb's name has been linked to many trade rumors due to his big salary. It has also been reported by local Cleveland newspaper, The News-Herald, that the Browns have contacted the Eagles about a possible trade.
With new Browns general manager Tom Heckert in place, who was formerly the general manager of the Eagles and who has ties to McNabb, this situation seem feasible, although the Eagles may want way too much in a deal for their star quarterback.
McNabb is 33 and coming off of one of his most successful seasons statistically in 2009.
Kevin Kolb
Kolb was drafted in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft by Heckert when he was the general manager with the Eagles.
He has seen limited playing time except when he came in to play for the injured McNabb. Kolb has shown the ability to be a future starter at quarterback in the NFL.
The Eagles may not be inclined to deal Kolb since he has youth and potential on his side right now.
Chad Pennington
Pennington is coming off of an injury, and with the emergence of quarterback Chad Henne, he may be expendable.
Pennington played for Browns coach Eric Mangini when they were both with the New York Jets, and he could fill a void since the Browns have not had a veteran quarterback on their roster for the last three years.
Since his stock is down, Pennington may come real cheap for the Browns, which would be a nice, low risk move.
Colt McCoy, Texas
Now into the possible rookies.
There is no reason that the Browns should be interested in one of the first round quarterbacks, since they have huge holes in their defensive secondary. Either Eric Berry (if available) or Joe Haden would be a better pick.
The second round is a different story, though, and even though many have questioned McCoy's ability in a pro system (since he played in a spread offense), just remember that Saints quarterback Drew Brees was able to go from a spread offense to a pro system.
McCoy's durability is also an issue, but so was Brees' shoulder when the Saints signed him in 2006.
Tony Pike, Cincinnati
Another spread offense quarterback in college, Pike needs some work, but that's what coaches are for.
Pike could also use about 10 pounds, since he is a lanky 6'6", 225 pounds.
If Holmgren wants Pike, then it will probably be a work in progress for a season or two.
Jarrett Brown, West Virginia
Brown is a very interesting prospect with his combination of athletic ability and arm strength.
He has good size to be a NFL quarterback at 6'3", 220 pounds.
Plus, wouldn't it be fun to see Brown's name on the back of a Browns uniform?!
Tim Tebow, Florida
Right now you're thinking ,"REALLY?!"
It has been reported that both Holmgren and Heckert are intrigued by Tebow's abilities and football passion, but honestly, he is not worth the development unless he is stting on the draft board in rounds three or four.
You gotta love Tebow's passion and drive to succeed though.
Another Rookie in the Later Rounds?
There is a chance that Holmgren may have his eyes set on a quarterback in the later rounds of the draft?
He did find Hasselbeck in the sixth round of the 1998 NFL Draft.
Derek Anderson
HA! GOTCHA!
Couldn't resist it, but he won't be in an orange helmet since he is due a ridiculously large bonus at the beginning of March.
