I just have a moment for a couple of quick thoughts about the major trade today.

For those of you upset about losing Cole, look at it this way. He is only under contract for one more year, it’s possible that he could sign here again next year. Pitkanen is only 24, he will be a restricted free agent for awhile. This looks to be a good deal for both teams.

The trick will be to actually sign Pitkanen and get him under contract.

Jim Rutherford mentioned in a press conference today that the Canes will be signing another defenseman who played in Europe last year. Could that mean the return of Danni Markov?

I will have plenty more to say later tonight. Cole will be missed in more ways than one.

  1. im so happy that joni is back in the east!! hes my favorite player, even though he didnt really do much for the flyers

  2. Cole is a big loss, but I think the Canes will be happy with Pitkanen. He just needs a fresh start to realize his potential.
