Alabama-Ole Miss Loss Worst in Bama Basketball History
With a comfortable 20-point lead at the half, the University of Alabama Men's Basketball Team underwent a colossal collapse and lost to the Ole Miss Rebels in the Tad Pad. When you are an average team in the SEC, there is no safe lead.
Anthony Grant is getting a rude introduction to SEC play. His team is not responding well. To lose a 20-point lead is one thing, to give up 54 points in the second half is ridiculous, particularly after scoring the first three points of the second half.
This loss is harmful on multiple levels. Team confidence is at an all-time low. Confidence in the coaching staff is not established, and now questions will surface until a winning streak is established. If there is another loss of a cataclysmic variety again this year, the competence of the coaching staff will be brought into question.
Mark Gotfried never lost a game like this. Neither did Hobbs, Sanderson, or Newton. This cannot be tolerated. The players on this team are better that what they showed on Saturday. The coaching staff is surely better. Things must change.
With a win, which was certainly a consideration after what the Alabama Crimson Tide did to the Rebels in the first half, the Tide would have been in sole possession of second place in the West Division. Having lost, they cannot challenge for the West Title this year.
Let's hope for the best, do our part to keep cheering them on, and just pray that this embarrassment will bring out the best fight they have—to defend their honor and as a show of respect for their coach.
Come on Alabama, play like you want to win. We expect more!
