The 2008 Stanley Cup Champions filled a hole on the first day of free agency. They signed veteran netminder Ty Conklin to a one-year deal worth $750,000. Now he will replace recently retired goaltender Dominik Hasek. He will compete with Jimmy Howard, a young goalie coming off some great seasons in Grand Rapids to backup Chris Osgood. Conklin was recently with the Pittsburgh Penguins and proved to be a worthy backup. When Marc-Andre Fleury was injured during the season he had a 18-8-5 record. He has been with Buffalo, Edmonton, and Pittsburgh. Look for Conklin to play between 15-20 games during the season if Jimmy Howard does not take the backup position.
