The draft outlook for Detroit this year is to build around super star QB Matthew Stafford and gain as much young talent as possible. With a heavy group of talented under class players and a handfull of seniors, the
Lions have a legit chance to have a strong class and take a huge leap into 2010. Take a look and tell what you think I did right and what I could change to make it a great mock draft.
Round 1: Gerald Mccoy
DT 6'4" 295 Oklahoma
Lets be honest, all Lions fans want Suh this year for Christmas, but it would come as a shock if the St. Louis Lambs pass on the extreme hype known as "The House of Spears" Suh. Here is some more honesty: Gerald Mccoy has had 3 very good years and Suh had ONE GREAT year. Mccoy is a very good fit for the Lions defense. Look for him to have a monster year in Detroit and be the Stafford of the defense.
Round 2: Mike Iupati
OG 6'6" 330 Idaho
This monster of a guard left a great impression on the Lions coaching staff at the Senior bowl. Everyone knows that you win football games in the trenches. Some will argue that and say the Colts and Saints got there with elite QBs. Well they have Stafford so mission accomplished. Now that they have a stud QB it would be wise to protect him. We all remember the Browns game. Next time they need to have the game winning drive without Stafford getting drilled.
Round 3: Kyle Wilson
CB 5'10" 190 Boise State
Look at this picture: Take it in. Does it look like someone? How about Delmas. Yeah tell me fans if you wouldn't like a Delmas type player at corner. I thought so. This is another player that stood out at the Senior Bowl for the Lions coaching staff. He can cover anybody in the league with the right coaching. This is the ideal player for the Lions at this stage in the draft.
Round 4: Jordan Shipley WR 6'0" 195 Texas
WR 6'0" 195 Texas
If research is correct and Shipley is available here for the Lions then they would be stupid to pass on him. Imagine Calvin Johson is covered by two corners, Stafford scans the field, the pocket is closing in! At the last second Stafford slings it over the middle to Wes Welker! First Down! Well replace Shipley for Welker and you got yourself a real scenerio. Jordan Shipley could be a huge weapon right away and a huge steal in the draft.
Round 5: T.J. Ward
S 5'11" 190 Oregon
Ward is a great young talent that is very valuable at this stage of the game. He is a ball hawk with great leadership skills. Team him and Delmas and Kyle Wilson together and you have a very young, super talented secondary.
Round 6: Ed Wang
OT 6'5" 310 Virginia Tech
A beast of a man here in the Round 6. This is just another step in building up the offensive line. All the articles in the Detroit area are saying that the coaching staff is in love with the O-line but we all know Stafford is standing behind a paper wall. It is time to start over here and bring in some line man with real size and skill. Let me know if you agree.
Round 7: Zoltan Mesko
P 6'4" 242 Michigan
Ok ok ok I now what you are thinkin. A punter? On a team that has so many other needs. I saw this guy punt the ball 65 yards against Iowa. The Lions have a hard time getting good field position and an even harder time getting out of bad field postion. Plus if the ball is the air that long, it gives the Lions plenty of time to get down the field to stop the return guy. Thank You for taking time to read my article. Please let me know your opinion because I would love to hear what you the fans have to say.
